During the practical part of his studies he chose to be at the German-French Chamber of Commerce in Paris.

Worked as a lawyer in a Mannheim law firm until 1982.
Since 1982 a sole practitioner specialising in social security law and in particular pension law.
Since that time more than 1,000 proceedings before social security courts as well as several thousand extra-judicial proceedings in all areas of social insurance law.
Spring 2001 co-founded the law firm bjw | Böckmann, John, Wiester.
Member of the social welfare law working group of the Society of German Lawyers (Deutsche Anwaltsverein).
